Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are polyoxoesters that are synthesized intracellularly in diverse bacteria (and plants)under conditions of limitation for a nutrient other than carbon. The polymers are water insoluble and accumulate as intracellular granule. The set of functions for this SS is well defined in the literature.
