Subsystem: Murein hydrolase regulation and cell death

This subsystem's description is:

The cidABC and lrgAB operons regulate programmed cell lysis shown originally in Staphylococcus aureus. CidA is a pro-lytic protein that increases murein hydrolysis, whereas LrgA and/or LrgB is anti-lytic by the way of decreasing murein hydrolase activity. CidA and LrgA are proposed to be analogous to the holin/antiholins of bacteriophages and the Bax/Blc apoptotic system in eukaryota.
