A conserved genomic region in Enterobacteria that contains the yidE gene, coding for a mediator on hyperadherence.
The yidE gene encodes a putative transport and membrane-associated protein, and is found in the Enterobacteriaceae. Insertion mutagenesis of this locus results in enhanced adherence to HeLa cells in Escherichia coli O157:H7 (PMID: 12933841) and to other biological surfaces (PMID: 16332780).
